Aldo Bandini (1949) - Copia da Rembrandt

The painting is a copy of a Rembrandt, executed by the painter Aldo Bandini (born 1949), in 2025.
The painting depicts an elderly man, shown in half-length and facing the viewer, immersed in a somber, contemplative atmosphere. The face, marked by age and effort, emerges with great intensity from the dark background, becoming the true focal point of the composition.

The large dark headdress and the heavy fur-trimmed cloak build an austere and monumental figure. The palette is dominated by deep browns, blacks, ochres, and warm earth tones, interrupted by the golden light that caresses the face and the fur.

The light is used in a strongly Caravaggesque way: it does not simply illuminate the figure, but seems to pull it out of the darkness. The contrast between the illuminated areas and those shrouded in shadow gives the character a sense of loneliness, dignity, and mystery.

The rendering of the gaze is particularly successful: directed toward the observer but not aggressive, almost absorbed. The wrinkles, the mustache, and the modeling of the face contribute to giving the figure a deeply human dimension.

Aldo Bandini is a painter based in Carrara, painting since the 1960s. He has been a professor of painting at the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara, has painted for numerous galleries, and created works for the Church.
Currently, he maintains a studio in Carrara, where he continues to paint with passion.
