Persian Saddle Flask – hand-blown emerald-green glass – 18th century

Very fine Persian saddle flask from the 18th century, made of heavy, hand-blown emerald-green glass.

The bottle has the characteristic strongly flattened, rounded form of the traditional Persian travel or saddle flask. The neck is richly adorned with an inlaid spiral glass thread and ends in a hand-formed, outward-lipped rim.

The glass is noticeably heavy and shows the attractive irregularities, air bubbles and texture typical of historic manual glass production. At the bottom there is a clearly visible pontil scar, a beautiful trace of the traditional manufacturing process.

Condition: good antique condition with signs of aging and use. There is a small damage to the inlaid spiral/coil ornament around the neck; see the photos for a clear view. The damage hardly detracts from the overall fine appearance.
