Description from the seller
Groot Impressionist Oil Painting – Edgard Wiethase (1881-1965) – Lady in a Flower Garden.
A beautiful and atmospheric impressionist oil painting on canvas by the renowned Belgian artist Edgard Wiethase (1881–1965). The work is clearly and fully signed by the artist in the lower right corner. This high-quality and substantial artwork shows an elegantly dressed lady with a distinctive large hat and fur collar, enjoying a moment at the tea table on a sun-drenched garden terrace. Wiethase here displays his absolute mastery as a colorist: the lush sea of flowers in the background, the refined reflection of filtered sunlight, and the rich texture of the brushstrokes give the canvas a lively, warm character.
Edgard Wiethase studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and was a prominent member of the well-known artists’ association 'If I Can' (Als ik Kan). Although he enjoyed great fame for his animal paintings, these kinds of rarer, intimate outdoor scenes and portraits are highly sought after by enthusiasts of pure Belgian impressionism.
The painting needs a refresh and will become even more beautiful after that.
Given the dimensions, preferably pick-up. But shipping can also certainly be arranged.
