Rambouille Armand (1897-1955) - La bouquet

Magnificent antique painting depicting a charming still life of flowers. The work features a generous bouquet composed of dense white globular blossoms (reminiscent of hydrangeas or snowballs) that contrast superbly with the bright red of poppies in full bloom. The whole rests delicately in a terracotta or brown ceramic vase, placed on a wooden entablature where a solitary inflorescence has fallen to the ground. The artist demonstrates beautiful technical mastery, notably through the textured treatment of the medium to render the relief of the white petals and the suppleness of the poppy stems. The background in soft shades of green and gray idealizes the vivacity of the bouquet’s colors. The work is signed in the bottom left corner by the artist Rambouille Armand 1897-1955.
