Artistic description:
Coastal scene by Antonio Moreno Corbellas focused on a small group of stranded and moored boats near the shore. The composition features in the foreground a boat with rounded shapes, depicted with energetic brushstrokes and abundant painterly material, which acts as the main focal point of the work.
Behind it follow other vessels that visually lead toward the horizon and add depth to the composition. The vertical mast of one of the boats introduces a marked contrast to the horizontality of the sea and the coastline.
The artist builds the scene with a loose, quick, and very expressive brushstroke, with accumulations of material that give relief and dynamism to the surface. Whites, light blues, ochres, yellows and reddish tones combine to convey the luminous intensity typical of a Mediterranean coastal landscape.
The sky is resolved with fragmented brushstrokes in blues and whites, while the sea adopts light and bright tones. In contrast, the boats are traced with dark strokes that define their outlines without losing the spontaneity of the whole.
The work sits within a tradition of contemporary Mediterranean landscape painting close to Impressionism, where capturing light, color, and atmosphere takes precedence over a meticulous description of the represented elements.
The composition conveys a sense of calm and brightness, while maintaining vigorous execution thanks to the pronounced impasto and the variety of brushstroke directions.
It is presented with a wide gold frame of stepped moldings and an inner white mat, which enhances the scene’s luminosity and gives the whole notable decorative presence.
Particularly attractive to collectors of contemporary Spanish painting, coastal landscapes, and Mediterranean marine scenes.
