Description from the seller
Tissot pocket watch in solid silver (800) - "Cylinder 10 Rubies" - Switzerland, late 19th century
Object description:
In this auction is a refined antique pocket watch signed by the prestigious Swiss house Tissot. A model of great elegance, characterized by a finely decorated case and a classic cylinder movement, perfect for enriching a collection of antique watchmaking.
Watch specifications:
Brand: Tissot.
Type: "Open face" (Lépine).
Case: Made in solid silver with fineness 800/1000 (as evidenced by the hallmark visible inside the back cover). The outer back cover is beautifully hand-engraved with elaborate floral motifs and features a central blank shield (cartouche), originally intended to host the owner's initials. Serial number 50732 is engraved. It does not have a protective glass.
Cuvette (dust cover): The inner anti-dust cuvette bears the elegant original inscription "Cylindre 10 Rubis", indicating the technical characteristics of the movement. It has some time-related dents and is difficult to open, but the opening mechanism works regularly.
Dial: In pristine white enamel, clean and easily legible, signed "Tissot". It features large black roman numerals for the hours and an outer minute track with delicate arabic numerals (5, 10, 15, ...). At 6 o'clock is the small seconds subdial.
Hands: Of fine artisanal craftsmanship in the "Louis XV" style, with a distinctive coppery/rose-gold hue.
Movement: Mechanical hand-wound via crown. Time-setting is done by pressing the small button on the edge of the case (between 1 and 2 o'clock) while simultaneously turning the crown (the "pin-set" system). The caliber is a classic Swiss movement with cylinder escapement and 10 jewels.
Condition:
The watch presents good overall aesthetics, with a natural and appealing patina of time on the silver and normal wear consistent with its age.
Operation: Winding and running.
