Jim Nagoya is a French painter and visual artist whose powerful and instinctive work sits at the crossroads of expressionism, street art and contemporary abstraction. Trained at the prestigious Écoles des Beaux-Arts of Paris and Amiens, he develops early a visceral artistic practice, nourished by an internal need to represent and reinvent the world.

His work, rich in symbols and raw energies, draws inspiration from major currents such as Cobra, German Expressionism, Street Art, Surrealism, New Figurative, and American Abstract Expressionism. He joins the Street Art collective TBS alongside Jone Hopper and Skepa, exploring the interaction between art and urban space.

The universe of Jim Nagoya is an alchemy of major influences: Basquiat, Bacon, Picasso, Corneille, Condo, JonOne… but also the literary and cinematic worlds of the Beat Generation and 1960s underground California. This inspiration takes him to Los Angeles, where he collaborates for several years with a renowned painter on the art scene.

Back in France, Jim Nagoya pursues a bold trajectory. He has been awarded multiple times at national salons; he regularly exhibits at the Grand Palais in Paris and his works today are part of numerous private and public collections (town halls, departmental councils, etc.).

A personal, free, vibrant and engaged pictorial language — a mirror of the impulses of the contemporary world, imbued with a unique symbolism.
