An exceptional masterpiece of museum-grade Japanese lacquerware. This is a remarkably preserved, unused "Temoto-bako" (luxury executive document tray) crafted in Wajima, the historic capital of Japan’s finest Urushi art, by the highly acclaimed workshop Urushi-gei Yonenaga.
Wajima-nuri is internationally celebrated for its ultimate durability, requiring over a hundred meticulous steps, and its flawless, mirror-like black finish.[The Superb Art of Chinkin (Gold Inlay)]The highlight of this piece is the spectacular Chinkin (沈金) decoration depicting a majestic pine tree (Matsu), a traditional symbol of longevity and resilience.
Unlike surface painting, Chinkin is an incredibly difficult elite technique where the master artisan carves microscopic lines into the hardened lacquer using specialized chisels, then infuses the grooves with precious gold leaf and colored pigments.
The precision of the pine needles and the subtle green-to-gold gradient showcase the absolute zenith of traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

While it is entirely unused and retains its gorgeous original mirror-like luster, please note that there are minor superficial storage scuffs/faint marks on the inner sides and corners due to decades of storage, as clearly shown in the close-up photos.It has been meticulously preserved as a complete original set:Reverse side features the authentic golden signature of the workshop: "うるし芸 米永" (Urushi-gei Yonenaga).
