Pair of Art Deco Funeral Vases in Cast Iron – France, circa 1930.
An important and unusual pair of ornamental jugs/vases with a funeral character in cast iron, with a purely Art Deco aesthetic. Geometric silhouette in the shape of a trumpet/tulip inverted with a widened mouth, central decorative section embellished with multiple incised rings in relief, and set on stepped circular bases.
They showcase an original bi-tone finish with traces of glaze/industrial paint in dark blue and blue-green tones. The surface displays an authentic, rustic patina, marked by natural oxidation of the iron exposed to time and wear from their original use in French cemetery tombs.
Good overall condition, structurally intact, with no breaks or cracks in the casting. They exhibit pronounced surface oxidation, stains, and localized loss of pigment/paint, factors that attest to their age and add decorative aesthetic value (Wabi-Sabi / Brocante).
