Pocket watch, with a punch indicating 14K and the serial number 32008. A typical Swiss manufacture from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
The movement: It features a distinctive engraving depicting a dove with an olive branch on the balance bridge. This decorative mark indicates a Swiss-made caliber, typical of the period between the late 1800s and early 1900s (circa 1890–1910). Movements of this era with separate bridges were valued for their robustness.
The case and dial: This is a classic open-face Lépine watch with Roman numerals. The outer case has splendid guilloché work with a central shield intended for the owner’s initials (which in this case shows an elegant engraving of the letter "A").
The "METAL" mark on the dust cover: The third photo shows the word METAL stamped on the cuvette (the inner cover or dust cap that protects the mechanism). This detail is very common in antique gold watches: it indicates that while the outer case and back are solid 14K gold (as seen by the earlier hallmark), the inner protective lid is made of non-precious metal (brass or gold-plated copper) to ensure greater structural rigidity and better resistance to deformation.
Serial correspondence: The serial number 32008 that we saw on the back of the case matches perfectly with the one stamped on the inner cover (even if the last digit is partially worn or slightly deformed), confirming that all parts of the case were manufactured together and are original.
