Tasting Notes
Nose: Sweet and fruity. Distinct notes of vanilla, toffee, butterscotch, plums, and green apple emerge, accompanied by a light and refined floral touch.
Palate: Creamy and enveloping. The flavor profile develops on notes of dense toffee and butterscotch, blended with a delicate floral finish and fresh orchard fruit.
Finish: Sweet, long, and persistent, with a clean and pleasant dry oak finish.
Interesting facts about the Miltonduff Distillery
The heart of Ballantine's: Miltonduff is one of the key Speyside distilleries used to produce the famous Ballantine's blended whisky. For this very reason, official single malt bottlings are extremely rare, making independent bottlings like this one an excellent opportunity to discover its character.
The legacy of monks and holy water: The distillery is located near the historic Pluscarden Abbey. The water used for distillation comes from the Black Burn, a stream that, according to local legend, was blessed by medieval abbots to ensure excellent production.
A triple-distilled past: Although most Scotch whiskies today are double-distilled, historically Miltonduff was one of the few Highland/Speyside distilleries to long practice triple distillation (a technique more common in the Lowlands or Ireland).
The "Mosstowie" still era: Between 1967 and 1981, special Lomond stills were installed within the distillery. These stills produced batches of whisky with a completely different profile, marketed under the Mosstowie name, which are now considered genuine collector's items.
