19th Century Chinese Carved Blackwood Stool / Bench – Dragon Decoration
Description
A distinctive and highly decorative 19th-century Chinese stool/bench in blackwood, richly carved with traditional Oriental motifs.
The piece is particularly striking for its elegant sculptural construction, with dramatically curved sides terminating in scroll-shaped ends. The frame is extensively decorated with finely carved motifs, including dragons, floral and scrolling designs, creating a strong and unmistakably Chinese aesthetic.
The seat is composed of a series of wooden slats and has a gently curved profile, while the four shaped legs are connected by stretchers for structural support. The dark tone of the blackwood beautifully emphasises the depth and detail of the carving.
The dragon decoration is especially attractive and can be clearly appreciated in the detailed photographs. Together with the scrolling and floral motifs, it gives the piece considerable decorative presence and character.
