Palitai is het traditionele mes van het Mentawai-volk, afkomstig van de Mentawai-eilanden in West-Sumatra, Indonesië.
De Palitai heeft een recht en eenzijdig snijdend lemmet. Het handvat is uniek lang, slank en merkwaardig gebogen van vorm. De randen komen van de punt tot het uiteinde samen in een scherpe punt. Het staal dat werd gebruikt om messen te produceren werd geïmporteerd uit Sumatra, omdat smeden onbekend was op de Mentawai-eilanden. De messen werden ter plekke in de gewenste vorm afgewerkt.
