Large oil on canvas – E.M. Bouvier – Study for a large composition – Gypsy scene in the Camargue (Provence)
Beautiful large oil on canvas signed E.M. Bouvier, a painter active in the south of France in the 20th century.
This work depicts a Gypsy camp at the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, an emblematic Camargue scene, with a dancer, musicians and caravans in a warm and lively atmosphere.
The back of the painting bears original handwritten inscriptions, including the note “study for a large canvas,” indicating a preparatory work. However, the composition is finished and perfectly balanced, which makes it an artwork that stands as a decorative piece in its own right.
The work is also dedicated by the artist, adding a unique and personal character.
Beautiful painterly quality with impasto, typical of Provençal painting of the period.
