Description from the seller
Italian oval frame in carved and gilded wood – second half of the 19th century
Splendid and dramatic Italian oval frame, dating from the second half of the nineteenth century, entirely made of carved, pierced, and gilded wood.
The elaborated decoration consists of an harmonious sequence of volutes, scrolls, and vegetal motifs, finely handmade and arranged around the oval opening. The richness of the carving and the elegant movement of the composition testify to a very high level of Italian craftsmanship, able to turn a functional object into a true decorative work of art.
The antique gilding preserves a warm and fascinating patina, with natural color variations and traces of time that highlight its authenticity and give depth to the reliefs. Particularly refined is the contrast between the brightest gilded parts and the darker areas of the carvings, which makes the decoration even more lively and three-dimensional.
Thanks to its substantial dimensions and the refinement of execution, this frame has a remarkable scenic presence. It can house a portrait, a print, a painting, a devotional image, or be transformed into a prestigious oval mirror.
A unique piece with strong decorative character, ideal for enriching a classic, eclectic, or contemporary interior, where it will immediately take center stage. A charming proposition for collectors, interior designers, and enthusiasts of Italian antiques.
Any irregularities, small missing parts, and signs of wear are consistent with the object's age and form part of its historical character.
