Beautiful work by the hand of Belgian painter Henri Joseph Pauwels (1903-1983).
Pauwels is best known for his beautifully stylized, lightly impressionistic landscapes, harbor scenes, farmhouse interiors and flower still lifes. Signed at the bottom right by the master.

Joseph Pauwels was born on 16 December 1903 in Sleidinge, Belgium. Like most artists of his generation, Pauwels received academic training in Paris and absorbed the theories and techniques of the French Impressionists. His vivid pastel color palette and loose brushwork reflect the Impressionists’ interest in the study of light and color and it was probably painted en plein air, or outdoors on location. He was a successful artist in the pre- and post-World War II era. He exhibited extensively in Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. His paintings are represented in diverse museums around the world. Pauwels died on 12 March 1983.
