Description from the seller
Dior Diorly 1 Galliano Era D-Buckle Mask Shield
Sunglasses
A completely insane piece of early-2000s Dior by John Galliano.
The Diorly 1 pushed the idea of sunglasses into something much closer to a visor - an enormous sculptural shield lens wrapping across the face in a deep smoked grey, with almost no traditional frame visible.
And then there are the temples.
Each side is built around an oversized, architectural D-shaped metal buckle, with the ultra-thin wire construction running straight through it before opening into the elongated arms.
Glossy black temple tips finish the silhouette.
The result is wonderfully excessive: part futuristic visor, part luxury hardware, part Y2K cyber-glamour. Nothing delicate or conventional about these - they were designed to dominate the face.
This is exactly the kind of eyewear that makes the Galliano era at Dior so collectible today: experimental proportions, unapologetic hardware and a silhouette that feels almost alien rather than simply "fashionable." Diorly 1 examples from this era are consistently described by vintage dealers as oversized rimless/wraparound shield designs from the early 2000s.
A serious archive piece for anyone who understands the darker, more futuristic side of Galliano-era Dior.
