Beautiful oil on panel of a lively urban landscape depicting the medieval architecture of the French town of Annecy. Here the old prison, surrounded by the Le Thiou canal, is placed at the center.

The technique, the chromatic palette, and the composition of the scene place this painting between the late 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century; the presence of earthy pigments typical of the academic palette of the late 19th century.
Of good quality, the command of architectural volumes, the use of atmospheric perspective, and the handling of light testify to a quality production, probably from a painter trained in a European school.

The signature, located at the bottom, is present but illegible, and no documentary research has allowed identifying the artist or the title of the work.

The overall condition is good. Natural aging craquelure visible, coherent with the age. Varnish slightly yellowed. But no major structural damage visible on the front nor any signs of mechanical reproduction or restoration.

Representative example of urban landscape painting that testifies to the interest in historical architecture in the Romantic/Realist period, or even early Impressionism.
