Description from the seller

The surrealist work comes from the artist Olaf Kaulen, who lives in Hamburg. He is known for his detailed and often humorous or dreamlike oil paintings that blend familiar settings—like the New York skyline—with unexpected and absurd elements, such as floating leather sofas.
Although New York is the main motif, there is a nude figure in the foreground. The term 'nude' refers to the artistic representation of the naked human body. Since the woman depicted in the painting is largely undressed and her pose emphasizes the aesthetics of the body, this motif falls squarely into this category. Elements of the Statue of Liberty are attributed to the woman and vice versa in order to manifest a transcendent experience.
Through the depiction of the World Trade Center, painted 1997–1998, thus at least three years before the attacks, particular emotions can presumably be aroused for everyone.

The original oil painting was part of an exhibition in 1999 and was praised in the Dithmarscher Landeszeitung with an article.

With the leather sofa, the series 'The Surrealist's Sofa' continues and, with this elaborate work, reaches its climax.
