Mario Rombolini (1935 - 2014) was a painter and sculptor, born in Livorno in 1935, where he lived and worked. He approached art from natural attraction and matured with attentive and understanding observation of nature and man; he accumulated a remarkable and varied technical background. He loves his land, the people who live and work there, the art of his fellow townspeople: hence the Macchiaioli are always present to the vigilant eye and inquisitive spirit. But he is by no means a pedantic imitator. The lesson he learned, he applies to his time and to the problems that this convulsive era proposes. It is he, whom we can define as post-Macchiaiolo, who carried forward from that group of nineteenth-century painters and innovators the purest tradition, applying in a modern key not only the particular painting technique but also the vision of the land, the countryside and its inhabitants, men and animals, sketched with decisive and strong brushstrokes, figures dense with color and light.
