Champagne cooler - Earthenware - Large faience cachepot

Superb and imposing faience cache-pot (or refreshment stand) in a cylindrical flaring shape, resting on a small foot and fitted with two movable stylized side handles. The piece features a magnificent polychrome decoration entirely hand-painted at the “petit feu” (low-fire). The central motif is Sino-French inspired (in the taste of the Compagnie des Indes and Sèvres productions of the 18th century), consisting of a large peony or chrysanthemum in full bloom in shades of pink and white, surrounded by foliage and delicate splotches of spring flowers in orange, yellow and violet. The upper and lower borders as well as the foot are outlined by pastel-pink fine lines of great softness. Under the base lies the blue grand-fire mark depicting the two interlaced Ls of the royal Sèvres monogram, enclosing the date-letter “C.” This is a very fine prestige production from the late 19th century (Napoleon III period), attributed to the great Parisian manufactories of the time specializing in high-quality reproductions (types Maison Samson or Porcelaine de Paris).

Condition: Excellent overall condition for its age. The porcelain is very white and sound, the glaze has retained its original radiant brilliance. The hand-painted colors remain extremely fresh and vibrant. No cracks or major restorations visible.
