Antique French Roberval balance by Balances Ollivier, dating to 1890–1920, with a cast-iron base and copper/brass weighing pans, and including a matching antique wooden weight block with copper/brass weights (some weights missing).
Description from the seller
A beautiful, highly decorative set consisting of an original antique French Roberval balance scale and a matching antique weight block. A stunning eyecatcher for a country kitchen, windowsill, or a brocante/industrial interior!
The Scale:
Brand: Balances Ollivier – Paris (the original factory stamp "Balances Ollivier — 210 Rue Polonceau Paris" is printed in the cast iron).
Period: Late 19th century / early 20th century (ca. 1890–1920).
Model: Compact and beloved kitchen model with a maximum weighing capacity of 2 Kilograms (clearly marked with '2 K°' on the mechanism).
Condition: Supplied with two beautiful, authentic brass/copper bowls. The cast iron base has historically been given a decorative gold-colored coating. The underside shows the original, solid cast iron with the authentic casting numbers from the French foundry. The mechanism with the needle operates smoothly.
The Weight Block:
Contents: A characteristic wooden block with a varied set of antique brass/copper knob weights (including two sturdy weights of 500 grams).
Condition: The set has acquired a gorgeous, well-worn dark patina over the years. The block is incomplete (a few small weights are missing), which gives it a true, lived-in brocante appearance.
