For this iconic 2018 cover of The New Yorker, titled "The Road", David Hockney adapted his 2017 painting Tall Dutch Trees After Hobbema (Useful Knowledge), itself a contemporary reinterpretation of The Avenue at Middelharnis(1689), a masterpiece by Meindert Hobbema. In it, Hockney boldly reimagines the conventions of classical perspective, transforming the 17th-century Dutch avenue into a vibrant, luminous, and resolutely modern landscape.

This reproduction of the artist’s work is very rare on this type of medium and makes a striking visual statement.
