Description from the seller

AMERICAN SPIRIT is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado inspired by American iconography, the imagery of the contemporary western, and the graphic aesthetics of the old illustrated posters from the mid-20th century.

The work depicts a profile portrait of a young Indigenous woman with braids and feathers, transformed into a symbolic image of strength, identity, and connection with nature. The frontal composition and the use of intense colors turn the figure into a visually striking icon with great presence.

Flavia Delgado blends influences from pop art, classic comics, and vintage editorial illustration, evoking the old illustrated covers and graphic advertisements of the fifties and sixties. The bold black outlines and formal simplification recall the visual language of retro posters and traditional printed illustrations.

The combination of deep blues, intense reds, and sandy tones creates a warm, nostalgic atmosphere, while the serene profile of the character brings balance and elegance to the composition.

The piece dialogues with the imagined journey, freedom, and the spirit of the American landscape, reinterpreting historical symbols from a contemporary and graphic perspective.

AMERICAN SPIRIT combines graphic design, vintage visual culture, and pop sensibility in a work designed to add character, personality, and decorative strength to the space.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
