In this vertical format, Medsan seizes a sumo wrestler in full momentum, one foot still suspended above the circle, the other set flat. The left arm rises very high, the hand still open on the salt scoop he has just thrown: a white spray erupts above his head and falls in a fine rain. The right fist remains closed along the body. Frowning, his gaze looks straight ahead, toward the ground. The topknot is tightly tied high on the head, the black mawashi lets long cords float that coil into soft loops. Large plates and golden spirals run across the arms, the torso and the legs.

On the right, a swarm of small golden and white squares descends diagonally. Behind, golden panels bear dark green pines, flowering plum branches and clouds in ochre and red; on the ground opens a vast circle of red and golden spirals. On the left, the cartouche メドサン surmounts a red seal. Everything rests in this suspended moment, just before the foot comes down.
