Description from the seller
Superb collectible statue featuring Selket, goddess protectress of ancient Egypt, issued by Franklin Mint in 1989 and crafted in fine porcelain, hand-painted with sumptuous 24-karat gold highlights.
This elegant sculpture draws inspiration from the famous representation of Selket discovered in Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922. Goddess associated with protection, healing, and magic, Selket was among the deities charged with symbolically watching over the pharaoh in the afterlife.
The goddess is depicted standing in a majestic pose, wearing a long robe and crowned with her characteristic emblem. The finesse of the modeling, the polychrome hand-painted details, and the shine of the gilding particularly showcase this imposing decorative piece.
This Franklin Mint edition was created from a design by Ibrahim Sharoubim, an artist specializing in the interpretation of Egyptian art.
