Traditional Japanese Aizu lacquerware three-tier jubako (stacking box) from Japan, decorated with the traditional auspicious Sho-Chiku-Bai motif of pine, bamboo and plum blossoms.

This is a 6.5-sun three-tiered jubako made of natural wood and finished with genuine urushi lacquer. The original Japanese product labels specifically state “Natural Wood” (天然木) as the base material and “Urushi Lacquer” (うるし塗装) as the surface coating. The black lacquered exterior is decorated with an elegant gold-coloured Sho-Chiku-Bai design featuring pine, bamboo and plum blossoms, a traditional Japanese combination associated with auspicious occasions and celebrations.

The original label identifies the item as a black 6.5-sun three-tier jubako and indicates the Sho-Chiku-Bai design. The item also retains its original quality indication label issued in accordance with Japanese household goods quality labelling regulations. This label states that the base material is natural wood and that the surface coating is urushi lacquer. Approval number SK-HS-0122 and the marking of the Japan Lacquerware Cooperative Association are present.

The jubako itself has never been used; however, it has been kept in long-term storage. There is a visible area of surface/lacquer loss, which is shown in the photographs. The original outer box shows age-related staining, discoloration, wear and other signs of long-term storage.
