putto, This type of woodcarving is characterized by the dynamic, expressive posture and the distinctive full curls typical of Baroque sculpture from the 17th and 18th centuries. The statue shows a seated, wingless little angel (often associated with Cupid or a putto) with one arm raised, carved from a dark, patinated oak wood.
