Sévres style - Lidded vase - Softpaste porcelain

Great vase with a soft-paste porcelain lid in Sèvres style and gilded bronze – Gallant scene signed by P. Roche – France, ca. 1890–1910.
Ex exceptional central cartouche with a polychrome medallion hand-painted depicting a classic gallant pastoral scene. It shows a young courtly couple in a countryside idyll in affectionate posture, surrounded by vegetation and a basket of flowers, evoking 18th-century compositions by François Boucher. Author's Signature: Signed "P. Roche" visibly on the base of the painted scene. Pierre Roche was a renowned miniature painter active in French decorative workshops at the turn of the century, highly valued today in the art and antiques world for the delicacy of the faces and the use of light in the fabrics of his figures.
Body and Decoration: The ovoid body is covered with a deep, brilliant Blue Cobalt glaze (Bleu de Roi). The central cartouche and the neck are profusely framed with fine filigrees, floral scrolls and garlands in relief executed in gold leaf. Bronze Mountings: Square gilded-bronze base with pierced geometric decoration, side handles cast in rococo-style volutes, and the upper cap of the lid in the form of a gilded pineapple.
P. Roche was a prominent French porcelain painter and decorator active in the Paris market approximately between 1890 and 1910. He is well known in the art and antiques world for signing beautiful pieces made in the style of Sèvres, the famous porcelain of the kings of France.
