Description:
For me, woman is creation, nature, light and strength.
The reason that drove me to create this artwork comes from the deep desire to let these elements be reborn inside the heart of everyone who observes it.
I wanted to convey the close and indissoluble bond that exists between a woman's body and nature. That is why I painted the female half-bust with a direct reference to the savanna, to wild nature.I chose the zebra, a majestic, free, elegant and beautiful animal, not only as a graphic motif, but as a symbol primarily of balance between opposites, of duality and uniqueness thanks to its bicolored coat as unrepeatable as a fingerprint. This pattern, which I have applied to the face, neck, bust with a subtle reference on the glasses, becomes a code of strength, instinct and sophisticated freedom. Gold envelops the figure like a precious second skin, a symbol of light and calm power.
The contrast between the luminous porcelain skin, the golden stripes and the warm, textured background in gold acrylic is deliberately hypnotic: it is light meeting earth, it is femininity reclaiming its most authentic, wild and luminous nature.
An artwork that does not just furnish a wall, it lights it up.
Drawn in a comic-book style, with stylized features and focused on a dominant expression, these portraits only lack the classic speech bubble of the 'narrative segment' of pop art. In her presentation, Marcela Medvedikova writes: "I did not study painting: I am self-taught. Since I was a little girl I drew flowers and objects, then moved on to pencil portraits, until I discovered oil painting. Painting is a passion that I discovered and cultivated slowly. On the other hand, fashion fascinated me and guided me in my studies. Creating new styles of women's clothing with matching accessories fascinated me until I was twenty-seven. Later, painting earned a stable place in my life and I focused in particular on female faces, to perfect my painting technique."
From 2010 to today, Marcela Medvedikova has participated in various group exhibitions in galleries and museum spaces in Capri, Naples, Cremona and Rome. The "Machina" Gallery hosts the first solo exhibition of the Slovak artist.
