Large Buddha head cast in bronze, Thailand
The harmoniously modeled visage shows a calm, contemplative expression with downcast, almond-shaped eyes, distinctly curved eyebrows, a straight nose and finely formed lips. The characteristic elongated earlobes and balanced facial features correspond to the classic Thai Buddha iconography.
The head is covered with densely arranged, plastically worked spiral curls and is crowned by a pronounced ushnisha. On the dark brown to almost black patinated bronze, substantial remnants of gilding have survived, especially in the facial and ear areas. The partially worn and irregular surface gives the piece a strikingly historic appearance.
On a later black wooden pedestal, presented.
