Oskar Nerlinger - Photogram C1

Oskar Nerlinger (1893–1969) was the featured artist for the 269th selection of the Griffelkunst-Vereinigung Hamburg e.V. in the first quarter of 1993.
For this release, he created six photograms derived from his estate and based on tissue-paper montages. Originally produced between 1925 and 1928, the works were published in 1993 as a limited edition.
The photograms measure 17 x 12 cm (image size) and 30 x 23.5 cm (sheet size) and bear the catalogue numbers 269 C1–C6.
Photograms. 1925 - 1928/printed 1993. 6 gelatin silver prints. Each circa 20 x 13 cm (30 x 23,5 cm). Each with estate stamp, signed in pencil by Peter Nerlinger and Griffelkunst edition text printed on the verso. This print is C1.

The artist Oskar Nerlinger belonged to the circle around the gallery "Der Sturm" in Berlin in the early 1920s, and in 1926 he was one of the founders of the group "Die Abstrakten". In 1928 Nerlinger developed the technique of making photograms with tissue paper and the images offered in this lot are a perfect example of this phase in his work. His photographs were included in the important 'Film und Foto' exhibition in Stuttgart in 1929.
