Description from the seller
Japanese Kuro Raku Matcha Tea Bowl (Chawan) by Shoraku-klin – Black Raku Ware with Subtle Red Underglaze Nuances
An exquisite Japanese Kuro-Raku (Black Raku) Chawan crafted by the renowned Kyoto kiln master Shoraku (松楽).
Raku ware holds a paramount position in the Japanese Way of Tea (Chanoyu), cherished for its soft, hand-molded tactile qualities and deep spiritual connection to Wabi-Sabi philosophy. This particular bowl features a rich, lustrous black glaze with a characteristic textured surface (yuzuhada).
What makes this piece particularly fascinating is the subtle emergence of the reddish base clay (aka-shitaji) showing through the deep black glaze in selective areas. This intentional nuance creates a captivating depth and expressive landscape on the bowl's exterior, showcasing the artisan’s masterful control over kiln firing and glazing techniques.
The bottom features the impressed maker's mark "松楽" (Shoraku) alongside a beautifully hand-carved spiral (izumi) foot ring (kodai).
