Vintage pressed glass pendant lamp – relief glass / bubble glass – 60s/70s – Mid-Century

A particularly atmospheric vintage pendant lamp with a heavily crafted clear pressed glass shade, richly adorned with relief. When the lamp is switched on, the glass comes fully to life: hundreds of small round elevations break the light and create a warm, sparkling illumination.

The glass shade has a striking architectural design. The spherical upper portion is divided into vertical bands with a dense bubble- or nodular relief, alternated by smooth ribs. At the bottom, the glass transitions into a tapered, finely ribbed zone with another broad edge of round glass structures. This combination gives the lamp its characteristic Mid-Century look.

Such heavy structure and bubble glass was widely used in European design lighting from the 1960s and 1970s. Comparable pressed and bubble glass pendant lamps from this period are attributed, among others, to German and Scandinavian-oriented manufacturers; examples from the 60s/70s also combine clear relief glass, ribbing structures, and bubble patterns.

Renowned manufacturers such as Glashütte Limburg and Peill & Putzler also used pronounced bubble glass for their lighting in the seventies. However, this lamp has no factory mark visible, which is why I deliberately do not attribute it to a specific manufacturer or designer. That is the safest and most correct description for Catawiki.

The subtle champagne/amber-like tint of the clear glass enhances the warm effect when the lamp is lit. The thick relief creates beautiful light reflections and shadows around the lamp. It is thus not only a light source but also a beautiful decorative object when switched off.

The lamp is fitted with a cream-colored socket and matching cord. The cylindrical ceiling canopy is also present. The whole retains clear authentic vintage appeal.

Condition:
The glass shade is in a nice vintage condition. The glass shows the small irregularities and signs of use typical of old pressed glass. The electrical components, the cord, and especially the cream-colored ceiling canopy show clear aging and signs of use; visible wear is present on the canopy. Please study the detail photos carefully. The photos are an important part of the description.

A very decorative lamp for lovers of 60s/70s lighting, Mid-Century design, and heavy European structural glass. Especially when lit, the effect is spectacular: the relief catches the light in hundreds of small glass facets and spreads a particularly warm glow.
