Emil Frische was born in Düsseldorf in 1872, into a family closely linked to the artistic world. He was the son of the landscape painter Heinrich Ludwig Frische and trained at the Düsseldorf Academy of Arts, where he studied under Claus-Meyer. His known oeuvre includes genre scenes, interiors, portraits and still lifes, and his artistic activity is also documented during the early decades of the twentieth century. Specialized market sources record several Frische works that have appeared at auction.

The painting is integrated within the tradition of the Düsseldorf School, characterized by particular attention to landscape, genre scenes and the observation of everyday life. Frische is also listed among the artists historiographically linked to that school.

In this work, the surface treatment stands out, with a thick impasto brushstroke rich in textures that is particularly visible on the walls, the ground and the vegetation. The chromatic range, dominated by ochers, earth tones, subdued greens and grays, contributes to a serene rural atmosphere, while the birds in the foreground add dynamism and life to the composition.
