About Hans Kinkel
The German collector and photographer Hans Kinkel left behind one of the most significant private art legacies of German modernism and expressionist art of the 20th century. His collection encompassed works by major artists from Classic Modernism to postwar art and uniquely fused photography, visual arts, and art-historical documents. Together with Klapheck he published the Catalogue raisonné of print graphics 1977–1980. After his death, a substantial part of the estate was presented in the exhibition “From Kirchner to Baselitz – An Inheritance of the Century: The Hans Kinkel Collection” at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum. The exhibition made the exceptional quality and art-historical relevance of the collection accessible to a broad audience and established Hans Kinkel’s estate as an important testament to German art and cultural history.
