Artist biography:
Spanish postmodernist draftsman and illustrator from the Catalan school of caricaturists. Born into the family of art critic Alfredo Opisso, he trained in Barcelona and Paris and produced work for numerous Barcelona magazines from his early collaborations in Luz (1898) and for various Spanish and French publications (L'Esquella de la Torratxa, La Campana de Gràcia, Le Rire, Ruy-Blas). He belonged to the group Els quatre gats.
He is especially remembered for his work in children's magazines such as TBO and for his graphic work in various newspapers. His work as a draftsman constitutes a broad chronicle of Barcelona life, seen with gentle irony and in a style mainly inspired by the great French illustrators of the late 19th century; moreover, his satirical drawings are particularly valued, especially those with erotic themes.
His work constitutes one of the most beautiful and valuable sociological documents of all Spanish art of the 20th century. Currently, he is one of the pre-war artists most appreciated by antique enthusiasts.
