An interesting work belonging to the European neo-expressionist school, featuring a male figure placed in the foreground against a background populated by schematic figures and large color surfaces.

The composition stands out for the marked presence of the main character, whose face and anatomy receive a more elaborate treatment than the rest of the scene. The figure is built through energetic brushstrokes and chromatic planes, deliberately moving away from a strictly naturalistic representation and granting the character notable expressive intensity.

The background presents a much more synthetic language, with figures reduced to essential forms and broad areas of greens, blues, pinks and light tones. This simplification contrasts with the treatment of the protagonist and generates an interesting tension between figuration and abstraction.

Specially notable is the free and anti-naturalistic use of color, as well as a direct, visible and gestural brushstroke. The intense red in the lower area functions as a structural element of the composition and provides a strong chromatic counterpoint to the greens and blues predominating.

The work is related to trends of expressive figuration and neo-expressionism, in which the representation of the human figure is combined with chromatic freedom, formal simplification and a deliberately spontaneous execution.
