Oil painting by a French Post‑Impressionist school (circa 1920), titled Reflets sur l’eau, depicting a tranquil landscape with water reflections, 28 x 33 cm, country of origin France, sold with frame, unsigned, original edition.
Description from the seller
Interesting painting belonging to the French Post-Impressionist school of the first half of the 20th century, probably made around the 1920s-1930s, depicting a tranquil landscape with buildings beside the water, surrounded by lush vegetation.
The composition is dominated by an architectural ensemble of simple, rounded forms, whose luminosity contrasts with the deep greens of the surrounding vegetation. In the foreground, the surface of the water takes on special prominence thanks to the attractive play of reflections from the buildings and the landscape, creating a balanced composition with notable depth.
The work shows characteristics of the French Post-Impressionist tradition, with a free interpretation of the landscape based on simplification of forms, construction through color masses, and a visible, expressive brushwork. The artist moves away from a strictly academic representation to focus on the effects of light, color, and atmosphere.
What stands out is the contrast between the illuminated areas of the architecture, dealt with in ochers, creams, and pinkish tones, and the vegetation, executed with deep greens and a more materially worked brushstroke. The reflections on the water prolong the architectural shapes and add dynamism to a serene scene.
Due to its stylistic characteristics, the work can be placed within French Post-Impressionist landscape painting developed during the early decades of the 20th century, when the Impressionist heritage continued evolving toward greater formal synthesis and chromatic freedom.
The work is framed. The frame is included solely as a courtesy to the buyer and is not considered part of the artwork, so any possible defect in it will not be grounds for a claim.
The condition is as can be seen in detail in the photographs, which are an integral part of the description. It shows signs of age and use appropriate to its era. It is recommended to carefully examine all the images to assess its overall condition, as well as any craquelure, wear, small losses, scratches, or interventions it may present.
Packaging will be carried out professionally and carefully to ensure maximum protection during transport.
Shipping to destinations outside the European Union may be subject to duties, taxes, import fees and customs procedures, whose costs will be the sole responsibility of the buyer. Customs procedures may cause delays compared to usual delivery timelines.
