Description from the seller
Title: "Crimson Scarlet"
This 30x30 cm oil on canvas catches the eye with a field of scarlet red and crimson that extends into the foreground. The thick, gestural brushstrokes enhance the texture of the canvas, evoking a field of poppies in full bloom that serves as the vital, pulsating core of the entire composition.
Above this vibrant band, the landscape dissolves into a series of soft, muted greys. On the right, a calm sheet of water reflects the dull tones of the sky, interrupted by a small isolated cottage with a bright green roof that adds another splash of color. A cluster of dark, bare trees, reduced to essential silhouettes, punctuates the horizon and lines the cottage.
The sky occupies the upper half of the painting, heavily covered by ash-gray and dark clouds that loom over the scene and create a dramatic and powerful contrast with the red beneath. The composition is structured in horizontal bands, with the vast red expanse seeming to glow with its own light, offering a vision of vitality and hope against an otherwise somber and solemn atmosphere. The work demonstrates mastery of color and texture, creating an abstract meditation on emotional contrasts.
