Crucifix - Faience - 1950-1960 - Pietro Melandri

Pietro Melandri was born in Faenza in 1885; he is among the most important Italian ceramicists of the 20th century, Pietro Melandri
In 1921, the year he participates with some ceramics in the I Biennale of Rome, he founded together with entrepreneur Umberto Focaccia the factory "Melandri-Focaccia"
In 1925 they were present at the Expo des Arts Decoratives in Paris and in 1930 at the Triennale di Monza.
In 1933 he participated with some ceramics at the Triennale di Milano.
Awarded at the Milan Art Triennale of 1936, in 1937 he achieved enormous success at the Paris Exposition Universelle where he was recognized as the most important of the Italian ceramicists and where he was awarded the Grand Prize.
In the postwar period Melandri, with whom over the years the leading figures of 20th-century ceramics collaborate, gave life to a rich and original production that, while referencing Faentine ceramic tradition, is full of a strong and pervasive modernity that makes him one of the great ceramic masters of the century.
Pietro Melandri, active until the age of 86, died in Faenza in 1976.
