AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
“All the Works, as Old as They Are New, by Herr Jacob Cats”, 1700.
Richly illustrated edition of the works of Jacob Cats with full-page portraits, numerous smaller copper engravings, as well as a few larger full-page and folding copper plates.
3 parts in 2 volumes.
Overall, the pages of both volumes are well preserved. Somewhat worn in places, and there are a few light stains. Further back in the second volume there are light lower corner stains, which are unobtrusive.
In the first part the 8th page at the beginning has a larger tear.
Pages 49/50 show a large tear.
Pages 237/38 have a middle tear in the lower area, which only slightly intrudes into the text area.
Some pages at the beginning have been affected by light worm damage at the edge, but this is consistently outside the text.
Pages 549-630 show small worm traces in the text area, overall only with little loss of text.
In the second part the third leaf at the beginning has a larger tear in the lower area.
Pages 225/26 show a small to medium-sized tear in the lower area.
The bindings are somewhat rubbed, the joints are partially sprung. At the upper spine there is a slight misalignment of the leather cover.
Collation:
Volume 1:
17 leaves (with portraits and title copperplate, therefore check again), 666 pages, 5 leaves
Volume 2:
10 leaves, 608 pages, 62 pages
Dimensions: 39 x 26.5 cm
