The Mart Signed Museum

For years, the Where Are You Street Art? project has told the journey of street art through authentic fragments of urban walls, symbolically bringing the street inside homes, galleries, and private collections.

With this new series, The Mart Signed Museum is born, a natural evolution of Mart Signed’s artistic research.

The project arises from a simple reflection: what happens to a work when it finds its definitive placement?

A museum protects it, preserves it and hands it to the future, but at the same time it confines it. It can remain hanging on the same wall for decades, seen by millions, without being able to continue its journey.

From this idea, an imaginary museum is born in which some works symbolically decide to break free.

Each work appears as a fragment ripped directly from the museum wall. It is not only the work that is taken away, but also part of the wall that housed it, transforming the museum itself into an integral part of the work.

The collector does not simply buy a painting, but a fragment of The Mart Signed Museum, becoming the next stop on their journey.

The museum artwork

The wall, the frame, the museum label, and the other elements present are not mere decorative details.

They recreate a portion of the imaginary museum and are an integral part of the work.

The surface of the wall, the irregularities, the marks, and the materials contribute to creating the contrast between the spontaneous language of street art and the orderly, institutional language of the museum space.

The work shown in the photographs is exactly the one that will be received by the collector. No copy, reproduction, or different work will be shipped.

Materials and authenticity

The recovered materials are chosen to maintain a living connection with the original language of street art.

Signs, irregularities, abrasions, surface variations, and natural imperfections are not defects, but deliberate elements and an integral part of the artwork’s identity.

Each material preserves its own history and contributes to the work’s unrepeatable character.

The work is delivered ready to hang and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.

Mart Signed is an Italian street artist active internationally.

The Mart Signed Museum comprises a limited series of 10 unique works.
