• Description of the work
"Composizione No 111" is a polychrome and three-dimensional work created in 2013 in oil on canvas and enamels. The piece stands as a fundamental element within Diego Carchesio's ongoing artistic and stylistic research, fully expressing that language in a balance between geometric rigor, symbolic expression, and a strong conceptual impact that defines his entire production. The work unfolds on a quadrangular support dominated by a background of intense, saturated, absolute red. On this base, Carchesio applies a series of square relief modules in a rhythmic arrangement that breaks the two-dimensionality of the traditional canvas. This structure projects the elements into physical space, generating a continuous play of light, shadows, and changing volumes depending on the observer's angle and ambient light. The individual relief elements reflect the variety of the artist's research through differentiated technical treatments. The vitreous and sharp luster of the enamels contrasts with the application of oil, creating material variations both in the monochrome tiles that fuse with the background, and in those scratched and shaded in white that reveal the painterly gesture. On other modules emerge precise graphic signs traced in red, including grid textures, stylized anthropomorphic figures, and the enigmatic repetition of eyes. The eye, a central and recurring element in Carchesio's poetics, acts here as the conceptual fulcrum. Far from being a mere anatomical detail, it takes on a strong symbolic value linked to active vision and inner inquiry, prompting a profound reflection on the link between the visible surface of the work and the complexity of meanings hidden in the individual fragments.
