Icon - Wood - Byzantine art

Small painting with a Greek-orthodox icon known as Madonna of Tenderness or Virgin of the Sweet Kiss.
The work is a reproduction, hand-painted on a wooden panel according to the methods of traditional Byzantine art, using gold leaf.
The Virgin Mary holds the Baby Jesus in her arms with cheeks touching in a gesture of deep affection. It embodies the spiritual intimacy between the Mother and the Son.
In Byzantine tradition it is one of the most venerated subjects in the Orthodox Church to express divine tenderness toward humanity.
On the back there is a certificate written in multiple languages.

In excellent condition. It has only a few small marks on Mary's veil that are not particularly noticeable.
