Description of the work
A fragment of speed frozen on the canvas: the rear of a Porsche 911 GT3 R dominates the composition, with its twin‑plane wing cut against a neutral, blurred background that evokes the calm just before—or just after—the action on the track.
The viewpoint, low and close, makes the viewer an accomplice to the technical detail: the multi‑spoke wheels, the Michelin and Mobil 1 stickers, the wide fender arches and the tense reflection on the black bodywork. Red appears as a chromatic accent that runs along the rear optic, the mirror housing, and the lower line of the splitter, adding tension and rhythm to a surface dominated by deep blacks and warm grays.
The work abandons the artist’s usual human narrative in favor of focusing on the machine as portrait: an object of design and competition treated with the same attention to gesture, light, and texture that Tom Roy habitually dedicates to his figures. The result is a large-format piece that combines almost photographic precision in technical details with a loose, expressive brushstroke in the treatment of the background and reflections, bridging pop art, retrofuturism, and motor culture.
