Jardin aux palmiers, 1960–1970, oil painting, Spain, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Interesting work belonging to the mid-20th century Spanish post-impressionist school, depicting a lush garden dominated by tall palm trees and exuberant vegetation.
The composition is organized around the marked verticality of the palm trunks, which run across almost the entire pictorial surface and provide structure and depth to the landscape. Among them, different planes of vegetation, paths, hedges, and small garden areas follow one another, progressively guiding the gaze toward the background.
The artist shows particular interest in light and color, treated with a freedom characteristic of the post-impressionist tradition. The vegetation is built up with a wide range of greens—from deep, blue-tinged tones to bright yellowish greens—enriched with blues, ochers, and small reddish accents.
The brushwork remains clearly visible and takes on an important constructive role. The canopies of the palm trees are resolved with long, dynamic strokes, while the masses of vegetation in the background present a more fragmented and spontaneous execution. The result conveys the sense of a damp, luminous, and densely vegetated garden.
Particularly interesting is the use of light in the lower zones. The paths and hedges receive intense yellow and green reflections that contrast with the shadowed areas and create a pronounced sense of depth. This expressive use of color moves the work away from a strictly naturalistic representation.
To the right, a small garden building or pavilion appears, partially hidden among the vegetation. Its geometry contrasts with the organic shapes of the trees and helps balance the composition.
The landscape is close to the mid-20th-century Spanish post-impressionist tradition, when many painters maintained an interest in outdoor painting, Mediterranean luminosity, and landscape, progressively incorporating a freer brushstroke and a more autonomous interpretation of color.
The work stands out for its chromatic richness, spatial depth, and atmospheric character, offering an especially attractive view of the garden as a space of light and vegetation.
The painting is signed, though the signature is illegible, so no specific attribution is proposed.
The conservation status should be assessed from the provided photographs, which are an integral part of the description and allow appreciating the current condition of the piece.
The work is currently framed.
