Vintage Dutch hall furniture with mirror, storage compartment and 2 clothing brushes – approx. 1940–1950

Charming and especially complete vintage hall furniture from around 1940–1950, crafted in warm-toned wood and featuring a central mirror, an integrated storage compartment and two original wooden clothing brushes.

This type of compact wall unit was used in Dutch hallways and vestibules to take a quick look in the mirror and brush off clothing just before departure. Similar Dutch hall mirrors and brush cabinets with two brushes were also installed in the 1940s and 1950s.

The furniture has a lovely, symmetric design. In the center is the shaped mirror, flanked by two wooden clothing brushes hanging on metal hooks. To the sides of the mirror are decorative gold-colored metal ornaments. Under the mirror is a semicircular storage compartment with a hinged wooden lid. Ideal for keys, gloves, shoe polishing supplies or other small accessories.

The combination of dark-stained wood, brass-colored details, and the organically shaped back panel gives the piece a distinctly 1940s–1950s look. Such brush mirrors were specifically designed as practical hall furniture; examples where the mirror, storage space and brushes are still present together are today attractive decorative collectibles. Similar examples are also referred to as a hallway mirror, brush cabinet, or mirror cabinet.

Condition

In nice, authentic vintage condition with normal signs of use and age fitting the period. On wood, mirror, metal parts and brushes there are light scratches, discoloration, patina and signs of use.
