Antique leather plough gauge / strap cutter, mainly brass and steel, with two blades and a graduated bar, made in Italy, in good used condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
Antique brass leather plough gauge / strap cutter with two blades – leatherworking tool
Professional instrument for leather processing, belonging to the type of leather plough gauge / strap cutter, traditionally used by shoemakers, saddlers and artisans to obtain leather strips of adjustable width.
The specimen is primarily built in brass and steel and features a graduated bar, a mechanical adjustment system, and two blades with dark handles.
The particular mechanical construction and the quality of the materials make the piece interesting from a collectible standpoint as well.
It shows patina, oxidation and signs of use consistent with its age. It has not been polished or invasively restored.
In terms of construction, the piece recalls some historical French models, including tools attributed to Blanchard Paris. However, there is no legible mark that would allow confirming the attribution, therefore it is offered simply as an antique strap cutter / plough gauge and not as a Blanchard tool.
The photographs show the condition and all items included in the sale.
A object particularly suitable for collectors of historic artisanal tools, leatherworking utensils, cobbling and saddlery.
