Set of two matching Empire-style table lamps featuring tall cylindrical columns on stepped square bases, with metal mounts, dark brown mahogany appearance and decorative bands, supplied with cream textile lampshades, made of steel, chrome and textile, Netherlands origin, circa 1970–1980, in used vintage condition with wear and patina, and in working order.
Description from the seller
Atmospheric and decorative set of two matching table lamps in Empire style, featuring tall, slender columns in a deep dark brown/mahogany appearance and attractive metal ornaments.
The lamps have a pronounced neoclassical design. The long cylindrical columns rest on chunky, stepped square bases. Metal frames are applied at both the bottom and top ends of the columns. In particular, the wide decorative bands at the top stand out for their detailed geometric and diamond-shaped relief decoration. The combination of the dark material and the patinated silver/brass-colored metal gives the whole a stately, classical look that strongly recalls the Empire tradition.
Both lamps come with the large cream-colored fabric lampshades shown. When the lamps are lit, the shades emit a pleasant warm and diffused light. Because of their generous size, these are real statement pieces, very suitable for placement on a large console, sideboard, coffee table, or on either side of a sofa or bed.
Particularly appealing is that this is a matched pair. The symmetrical arrangement allows the classical proportions and the columnar construction to shine.
Condition
The lamps are in used vintage condition, with visible signs of age and use that fit their character.
In the photos, there are locally worn spots, scratches, and small damage to the dark finish of the wooden/base parts. In particular along some corners and edges of the bases there is finish loss. The metal parts show patina, discoloration, and normal signs of use.
